The Sciences: An Integrated Approach;
by James Trefil; Robert Hazen

I came across this book a few years ago when I was searching for some supplementary reading for non-science majors.

This amazing book manages to cover everything from the atom to cosmology, from DNA to geology and plate tectonics, and all in a way that is interesting, with many real world examples.
